О стране Turkey

Turkey is a transcontinental country bridging Europe and Asia, and for Georgian travelers it remains the single most-flown destination from Tbilisi. Sharing a southern land border with Georgia, Turkey combines a Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman past with modern coastal resorts and a deep cafe and bazaar culture that feels familiar to anyone coming from the Caucasus. Many Georgian families also travel for medical tourism in Istanbul and for shopping trips to Trabzon, just a short hop along the Black Sea coast.

The two anchor cities for first-time visitors are Istanbul and Cappadocia. In Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar sit within walking distance of each other in the Sultanahmet district, while the Bosphorus ferry between Eminonu and Kadikoy crosses from Europe to Asia in twenty minutes. Cappadocia, in central Anatolia, is the home of the dawn hot-air balloon flights, the underground cities of Derinkuyu and Kaymakli, and the cave hotels of Goreme. Beyond these, Antalya and Bodrum cover the Mediterranean and Aegean beach scene, Pamukkale offers travertine pools, and Trabzon is the closest large city to Georgia.

The best windows are April to June and September to October. July and August are hot and busy on the coast, winter brings ski season in Erciyes and Uludag, and Istanbul stays visit-worthy all year.

The currency is the Turkish lira (TRY), though euros and US dollars are widely accepted at hotels. Public transport in Istanbul runs on the Istanbulkart, which works on the metro, tram, funicular, ferry and bus. Turkish is the main language but English is common in tourist zones and Russian is understood in Antalya and along the Black Sea.

Flying from Georgia is straightforward. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AnadoluJet and Wizz Air fly daily from Tbilisi (TBS) and Kutaisi (KUT) to Istanbul (IST and SAW), with Pegasus and AnadoluJet also serving Antalya seasonally and Turkish Airlines connecting onward to Ankara, Izmir, Bodrum and Trabzon through the same Istanbul hub. Flight time Tbilisi to Istanbul is about 2 hours, and Kutaisi to Istanbul on Wizz Air is around 2h 15m. Typical round-trip fares from Georgia run roughly 350 to 900 GEL on the low-cost carriers and 600 to 1,400 GEL on Turkish Airlines, depending on season. Many Georgian travelers also take the overnight bus from Tbilisi to Istanbul via the Sarpi border crossing as a budget alternative, but for anything beyond Trabzon the flight saves a full day in each direction and is usually cheaper once fuel and accommodation are counted.

Виза для граждан Грузии

Georgian citizens can travel to Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. A valid passport is required with at least 6 months validity remaining.
