Athens
Plan Athens around the Acropolis, neighbourhood tavernas and your onward journey.
About Athens
Athens suits a trip built around ancient sites and neighbourhood walks. Start with the Acropolis and its museum, but treat them as separate visits with separate admission arrangements. Plaka and Monastiraki can fit around a walking day, while Syntagma and the National Garden offer another route. The Acropolis and Lycabettus involve slopes; the historic centre is not uniformly flat or accessible. Check the route for your mobility needs.
Our suggested first visit is three full days: one for the Acropolis and museum, one for the Ancient Agora and neighbourhoods, and one for the National Archaeological Museum or Panathenaic Stadium, according to your interests. Avoid packing every museum into one day. Check dated entry, seasonal hours and any closure notices before buying tickets; a museum ticket is not automatically a combined archaeological-site pass.
If you add Hydra, Aegina or another island, first check the actual ferry from your departure port, its gate and the return sailing. Island routes do not share a single crossing time. Allow for travel to Piraeus, boarding deadlines and weather-related changes; consider an overnight stay rather than a tight ferry-to-flight connection. Cape Sounion or Delphi can also be separate outings, with their own transport and site opening checks.
Choose accommodation by the journeys you plan: a metro connection can matter more than an advertised view. Keep belongings secure on crowded transport and avoid treating any neighbourhood as a guarantee of safety. Save the accommodation address in Greek as well as your preferred language. Greece uses the euro; check your bank’s conversion fees and your operator’s roaming conditions. For ticket-specific baggage and changes, contact FlyGE by chat or phone.

Food and Drink
Try moussaka, pastitsio, stuffed vegetables, souvlaki or gyros, and compare a taverna meal with smaller meze plates. Plaka, Monastiraki and the Piraeus waterfront offer different settings, so check menus rather than assuming a neighbourhood is cheaper. Espresso freddo and cappuccino freddo are options for a coffee stop. Ask about meat, dairy, seafood and allergens: a fasting dish is not automatically suitable for every vegetarian or allergy requirement. For fish sold by weight, confirm the weight and total before ordering.
Getting Around
Metro Line 3 connects the airport route with the city and extends to Dimotiko Theatro in Piraeus; check which departure serves the airport and any service changes. Airport metro and airport express buses have special tickets. OASA’s 5-day city ticket does not include airport journeys; the 3-day tourist ticket has its own airport inclusion and validity conditions. Compare the products for your actual stay and validate as instructed. For Piraeus, locate your ferry gate as well as the metro station: the port journey is not complete when you leave the train.

Ordinary Georgian biometric passport holders may make eligible short visa-free visits to the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the area.
