France
О стране France
France is the most-visited country in the world by international arrivals and the largest country by land area in the European Union. For Georgian travelers it usually means Paris first, but the country runs from the Atlantic coast and Normandy beaches in the north to the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees in the south, with the Alps, the wine regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, and a network of medieval towns in between. Georgia has had a French embassy since 1992 and the Tbilisi to Paris route has been one of the most consistently used long-haul Schengen connections out of TBS.
The core itinerary for first visits is Paris plus one second region. In Paris itself, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre with the Mona Lisa, the Musee d'Orsay with the Impressionist collection, Notre-Dame Cathedral (now mostly reopened after the 2019 fire), Sainte-Chapelle, Montmartre and the Sacre-Coeur, the Latin Quarter and the Marais all sit on the Paris Metro network. The Palace of Versailles is 40 minutes west by RER C train. From Paris, the easy onward jumps are Mont Saint-Michel and the D-Day beaches in Normandy, the Loire Valley castles around Chenonceau and Chambord, Provence for Avignon and the lavender fields, the French Riviera for Nice, Cannes and Monaco, and the Alps for Chamonix and Mont Blanc.
The best windows are April to June and September to October. July and August are hot, very busy in Paris and Nice, and most of Paris also empties out for August holidays so many small restaurants close. December is the high point for the Champs-Elysees lights and the Strasbourg Christmas market.
The currency is the euro (EUR). French is the language and outside Paris and the Riviera, English coverage drops, so basic French phrases help. The TGV high-speed network connects Paris to Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Lille in 2 to 3 hours, and the Paris Metro plus Navigo card cover the capital cheaply.
Flying from Georgia, Georgian Airways, Air France via codeshare, Wizz Air via Warsaw or Milan, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and LOT via Warsaw connect Tbilisi (TBS) to Paris (CDG and ORY), Nice (NCE) and Lyon (LYS). The Georgian Airways direct Tbilisi to Paris CDG flight runs about 5h 30m. Round-trip fares from Tbilisi typically run 800 to 2,200 GEL, with the cheapest fares on Wizz Air via Warsaw and the highest around the Christmas and Easter holiday peaks. For Schengen visa applications, Georgian travelers must apply at the VFS Global France center in Tbilisi rather than at the embassy directly, and the typical processing time is two to three weeks, so plan ticket purchase and visa timing carefully to avoid losing nonrefundable fares.
