United Kingdom

О стране United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and combines a thousand years of monarchy with one of the most diverse modern cities in the world. For Georgian travelers it remains a high-visa-friction destination but a popular one, especially for English-language study, NHS-related medical visits and family reunions in the London Georgian community around Ealing and Croydon. Unlike most of the EU, the UK is outside Schengen, uses its own currency and drives on the left.

London is the main entry and easily fills a first trip on its own. The British Museum, the National Gallery, the Tate Modern and the Natural History Museum are all free. Westminster covers Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. The Tower of London with the Crown Jewels sits next to Tower Bridge, and the South Bank links the London Eye, Borough Market and Shakespeare's Globe. Beyond London, the day-trip range covers Windsor Castle, Oxford, Cambridge, Stonehenge and Bath. Further afield, Edinburgh in Scotland is a separate 4-day trip with the castle, the Royal Mile and the August Fringe Festival, while the Lake District, the Cotswolds and Snowdonia cover the countryside.

The best windows are May to September. June through August are the warmest and brightest, with daylight running past 9pm in London and past 10pm in Edinburgh. November to February is dark and damp but holds the Christmas markets, the New Year fireworks on the Thames and the cheapest hotel rates.

The currency is the British pound (GBP), and contactless payment is universal on the Tube, buses and almost all shops. Public transport in London runs on the Oyster card or any contactless bank card, both capped daily. English is the working language across the country. Driving is on the left, but visitors can use Tbilisi-issued licenses for up to twelve months.

Flying from Georgia, Wizz Air, Pegasus, Turkish Airlines, LOT and Lufthansa connect Tbilisi (TBS) and Kutaisi (KUT) to London (LHR, LGW, LTN and STN), Manchester (MAN) and Edinburgh (EDI), all with at least one connection through Istanbul, Warsaw, Vienna or Frankfurt. There is no direct Tbilisi to London flight as of 2026. Total travel time runs 6 to 10 hours including the layover. Round-trip fares from Georgia typically run 700 to 2,200 GEL, with the cheapest tickets on Wizz Air via Warsaw to London Luton. UK visa applications for Georgian passport holders go through the VFS Global center in Tbilisi, with standard visitor visa fees of around 115 GBP and a processing time of three weeks, so submit the application well before booking nonrefundable flight tickets.
